  • River character: steep mountain river dropping through a granite gorge. Pool-drop-pool structure. Massive boulders, ledge drops, named rapids (Zoar Gap is Class II-III on full releases). Water is COLD year-round (tailwater).
  • Reading the water: big eddies on river-left below every boulder; main current line moves dramatically with release level. At 800 cfs the river is friendly; at 1500+ it's serious.
